The first task is to joint the maple cap. Many would use a power jointer to achieve this but I find highly figured maple is prone to breakout no matter how well you set the planer. I do it by hand with a shooting plane.
The two edges are now perfectly square and making contact along the entire surface.
Time to glue up the joint.
The next task is to prepare the body blank for the cap….
