Quick Uke Build – Part II
Now the sides are thicknessed to 1.5mm and cut just over the finished width of the mold they are bent to shape on a bending iron.
I like to start with the bend on the wist as that gives me a good reference point each time the bend is tested as it forms around the mold. A pencil mark on the rib and the mold helps to align the rib in the same place each time.
The ribs are slowly bent to match the curve and then left to settle for a few hours and any spreing back adjusted before they are finally glued to the neck and end blocks.
Finally the ribs are held on the mold with tape as work continues on the tback and the top.
